ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen
Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Maritime Pine interacts with.
Clinical research suggests that maritime pine bark extract inhibits platelet aggregation. However, the clinical significance of this effect is unclear.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to keep an eye on with Combogesic: the ibuprofen half is an NSAID, and NSAIDs already nudge up bleeding risk on their own by making your platelets a little less sticky. Maritime pine bark (Pycnogenol) seems to do something similar in lab studies, gently slowing how platelets clump together. Stacking two things that both lean that way could, in theory, add up.
To be fair, this is a theoretical concern based on how these work, not strong proof, so I don't want to alarm you. Just watch for easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or stomach upset. If you take Combogesic regularly or use blood thinners, run the pine bark by your pharmacist or doctor first.
