Low disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Low

Most active ingredients don't disclose an individual amount — you can't tell how much of each you're getting.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 0 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • “Proprietary Blend” is a proprietary blend — the label gives one combined amount (1.50 mL) without saying how much of each component you get.

Quebra Pedra is a single-ingredient liquid supplement containing chanca piedra (also called Phyllanthus niruri), a South American herb traditionally used for kidney and liver support. The liquid also contains purified water and ethanol as inactive ingredients.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed

This product doesn't appear to be marketed for a specific use, so we graded Chanca Piedra's overall clinical evidence instead.

Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports Chanca Piedra for:

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.
  • Since the label doesn't commit to one use, we graded the ingredient's overall clinical evidence instead.
  • On file: Kidney stones (nephrolithiasis) — rated "Possibly Effective" (Natural Medicines).

Chanca piedra is possibly effective for kidney stones (nephrolithiasis). For hepatitis B, the evidence shows it's likely ineffective.

For anemia of chronic disease and benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate), the evidence is too limited to rate.

Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Chanca piedra appears generally well tolerated in short-term use, though thorough safety data are limited. The most common side effects reported are abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and in one trial, fatigue.

The product should not be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding due to insufficient safety information.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Theoretically, chanca piedra might increase the risk of bleeding when used concomitantly with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro research suggests that methyl brevifolincarboxylate, a constituent isolated from chanca piedra, can inhibit platelet aggregation. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates

Theoretically, chanca piedra might reduce the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that chanca piedra extract increases CYP1A2 activity. Theoretically, chanca piedra might increase metabolism of CYP1A2 substrates and lower serum concentrations. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates

Theoretically, use of chanca piedra might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that chanca piedra extract inhibits CYP3A4. Theoretically, chanca piedra might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Diuretic Drugs

Theoretically, concomitant use of chanca piedra with diuretics might increase diuresis.
Some preliminary clinical research in adults with hypertension shows that chanca piedra has diuretic properties. However, higher quality research in adults with kidney stones shows taking chanca piedra does not increase urine volume when compared with placebo. Until more is known, use cautiously in patients taking diuretic drugs.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Lithium

Theoretically, chanca piedra might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium.
Some preliminary clinical research in adults with hypertension shows that chanca piedra has diuretic properties. However, higher quality research in adults with kidney stones shows that taking chanca piedra does not increase urine volume when compared with placebo. Until more is known, use cautiously in patients taking lithium. The dose of lithium might need to be decreased.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Norepinephrine (Levophed)

Theoretically, chanca piedra may reduce the effects of norepinephrine.
Animal research suggests that methyl brevifolincarboxylate, a constituent isolated from chanca piedra, can reverse blood vessel contraction caused by norepinephrine.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Antidiabetes Drugs

Theoretically, concomitant use with antidiabetes drugs might affect glucose control and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Animal research suggests that chanca piedra can have hypoglycemic effects. However, a small clinical study in adults with diabetes shows that chanca piedra extract 25 grams orally daily for 1 week does not lower fasting or postprandial blood glucose levels.

Likelihood Unlikely Evidence D
Antihypertensive Drugs

Theoretically, concomitant use of chanca piedra with antihypertensive drugs might have additive blood pressure lowering effects.
Animal research suggests that chanca piedra can decrease blood pressure. However, this effect was not observed in most hypertensive patients treated with chanca piedra for 10 days.

Quebra Pedra by Energique: Common Questions

Does Quebra Pedra by Energique interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Quebra Pedra has a known interaction with 1,020 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Quebra Pedra contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Does chanca piedra actually work for kidney stones?
The evidence says it's possibly effective for kidney stones. That means some research supports it, but it's not proven—talk with your doctor about whether it makes sense for your situation.
What are the most common side effects?
Abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting are the most frequent complaints. One trial also reported fatigue. Most people tolerate it without serious problems in the short term.
Can I take this while I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. There isn't enough safety information to know either way, so the recommendation is to avoid it during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. Talk with your doctor or midwife first.
What's in this liquid besides the herb?
Purified water and ethanol. There are no other active ingredients—just those two as the carrier.
I take a water pill for blood pressure. Is this safe?

Does chanca piedra help with hepatitis B?
No. The evidence shows it's likely ineffective for hepatitis B, so this supplement isn't a good fit for that condition.
