HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Reishi Mushroom 500 mg by Vital Nutrients
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: reishi mushroom at 500 mg per capsule. Reishi (also called lingzhi) is a medicinal fungus used in traditional medicine, typically extracted from its fruiting body or mycelium.
The capsule also holds inactive ingredients — cellulose, calcium carbonate, leucine, and silica — which are fillers and binders that help form and stabilize the capsule.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for reishi is limited. It's rated possibly ineffective for lowering cholesterol (hyperlipidemia).
For altitude sickness, Alzheimer disease, and athletic performance, there isn't enough reliable evidence in our data to know whether it works. If you're considering reishi for a specific health goal, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about what the current research actually supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Reishi is generally well tolerated short-term, though long-term safety hasn't been thoroughly studied. The most common side effects are dizziness, dry mouth, itching, nausea, rash, and stomach upset.
A small number of people may experience respiratory allergy to reishi spores, showing up as sore throat or runny nose; rarely, dizziness, insomnia, and headache have been reported. Because there isn't enough safety data, reishi is best avoided during pregnancy and while breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on blood thinners (anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs) — reishi may increase bleeding risk at higher doses. Also confirm it's okay if you take blood pressure medications or diabetes drugs, as reishi might add to their effects.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Reishi mushroom is a single-ingredient supplement generally well tolerated for short-term use, but it can interact with blood pressure, blood thinner, and diabetes medications. If you take any prescription drugs in those categories, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting it.
Long-term safety data is sparse, and evidence for most claimed benefits is weak or absent.

Reishi Mushroom 500 mg by Vital Nutrients Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Reishi Mushroom 500 mg by Vital Nutrients can interact with blood pressure medications, blood thinners (anticoagulants and antiplatelets), and diabetes drugs.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners — at higher doses (3 grams daily), reishi may increase bleeding risk by affecting how platelets clump together, though the 500 mg dose in this product is lower.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Reishi may lower blood pressure on its own, so combining it with blood pressure medications (antihypertensives) could theoretically push your pressure too low. Similarly, reishi might add to the blood-sugar-lowering effects of diabetes medications, though human evidence on this is mixed — animal studies suggest it lowers blood sugar, but it hasn't reliably done so in people with type 2 diabetes.
Altogether, these interactions span 375 individual medications. If you take any of these drug types — or any prescription medication — run it through the checker below before you start reishi.

Reishi
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, high doses of reishi mushroom might increase the risk of bleeding.
A dose of 1.5 grams daily of reishi mushroom does not seem to decrease platelet aggregation, but a higher dose of 3 grams daily does.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, reishi mushroom might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research suggests that reishi mushroom decreases blood sugar. However, in patients with type 2 diabetes, taking reishi mushroom does not reduce fasting glucose levels, and its effects on glycated hemoglobin are inconsistent.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, concurrent use of reishi mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Reishi mushroom has shown hypotensive activity in animal research. Clinical evidence suggests that reishi mushroom reduces blood pressure in some, but not all, patients with hypertension.
