Reishi Mushroom Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Reishi Mushroom against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
This supplement contains one active ingredient: reishi mushroom. The capsules also hold cellulose and water as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
Reishi has been studied for a range of conditions, but the evidence is limited. For high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), reishi appears to be possibly ineffective.
For altitude sickness, Alzheimer disease, and athletic performance, there isn't enough reliable evidence in our data to rate whether it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Reishi is generally well tolerated in the short term, though long-term safety isn't well studied. The most common side effects are dizziness, dry mouth, itching, nausea, rash, and stomach upset.
Some people report respiratory allergy to reishi spores, with sore throat and runny nose. Rare effects include insomnia and headache.
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, there isn't enough safety data, so the evidence advises against use. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor about whether this is right for you in these situations.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your pharmacist if you take blood thinners (anticoagulants or antiplatelets), blood pressure medications, or diabetes drugs. Reishi has Moderate interactions with all three types — it may thin your blood at higher doses, lower your blood pressure further, or add to the blood sugar-lowering effects of your diabetes medication.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Reishi may be worth considering if you're looking to explore traditional mushroom supplements, but it's most important to check it against your blood pressure, blood thinner, and diabetes medications first. The supplement is generally tolerated well over short periods, though we don't know much about long-term use.
If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or take any prescription medications, talk with your pharmacist before starting.

Reishi Mushroom by Peak Performance Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Reishi Mushroom by Peak Performance contains one active ingredient — reishi — that interacts with several medication types.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners (anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs), a Moderate severity issue: at higher doses, reishi may increase bleeding risk. At 1.5 grams daily it doesn't seem to thin the blood, but 3 grams daily does.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Reishi also has Moderate interactions with blood pressure medications. The mushroom can lower blood pressure on its own in some people with high blood pressure, so combining it with blood pressure drugs might cause your pressure to drop too far.
It may also interact with diabetes medications through additive blood sugar-lowering effects, though the evidence in actual patients is mixed — animal studies show it lowers blood sugar, but human trials with type 2 diabetes show inconsistent results.
Altogether, these interactions span 372 individual medications. Before you start this supplement, use the search tool on this page to check your exact prescriptions, especially if you take blood thinners, blood pressure medications, or diabetes drugs.

Reishi
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, high doses of reishi mushroom might increase the risk of bleeding.
A dose of 1.5 grams daily of reishi mushroom does not seem to decrease platelet aggregation, but a higher dose of 3 grams daily does.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, reishi mushroom might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research suggests that reishi mushroom decreases blood sugar. However, in patients with type 2 diabetes, taking reishi mushroom does not reduce fasting glucose levels, and its effects on glycated hemoglobin are inconsistent.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, concurrent use of reishi mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Reishi mushroom has shown hypotensive activity in animal research. Clinical evidence suggests that reishi mushroom reduces blood pressure in some, but not all, patients with hypertension.
