HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Royal Jelly Maximum Strength by Swanson
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Royal Jelly Maximum Strength contains one active ingredient: royal jelly 3X (a concentrated form). Royal jelly is a nutrient-rich secretion made by honeybees.
The product also contains several inactive ingredients—medium-chain triglycerides, gelatin, glycerin, yellow beeswax, purified water, and sunflower lecithin—that make up the softgel capsule and help deliver the royal jelly.
Does it work?
Not established
Royal jelly is possibly effective for menopausal symptoms, meaning some evidence suggests it may help with hot flashes and related discomfort. However, the evidence we hold shows it's possibly ineffective for allergic rhinitis (hay fever), physical performance, and diabetes.
For hair loss (androgenic alopecia), there isn't enough reliable evidence to rate whether it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Royal jelly is generally well tolerated in most people, but it can cause serious allergic reactions in anyone with a history of asthma or atopy (a tendency toward allergic conditions). Common allergic symptoms include itching, hives, eczema, shortness of breath, and oral allergy syndrome.
In rare cases, severe allergic reactions—anaphylaxis, status asthmaticus (severe asthma attack), and even death—have been reported in people with asthma or atopy. There's also one rare case of bleeding in the colon after ingestion, though symptoms resolved within two weeks after stopping.
The safety data advises against using royal jelly during pregnancy and while breastfeeding because there isn't enough information to know whether it's safe.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on warfarin (Coumadin)—royal jelly may increase bleeding risk. Also confirm any blood pressure medications you're taking, since royal jelly may lower blood pressure further.
If you take any other prescription drugs, use the interaction checker on this page to verify them.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Royal Jelly Maximum Strength may be worth considering if you're dealing with menopausal symptoms and you don't have asthma or a history of allergies. However, if you take warfarin or any blood pressure medication, you need to check with your doctor or pharmacist first — the interaction risk is real.
Anyone with asthma or atopic allergies should be especially cautious, as allergic reactions can be serious.

Royal Jelly Maximum Strength by Swanson Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Royal Jelly Maximum Strength by Swanson contains royal jelly, which interacts with blood pressure medications and warfarin (a blood thinner).
The most serious concern is warfarin: royal jelly may increase bleeding risk, and one documented case showed a patient's blood-thinning level (INR) spike dangerously high after just one week of use.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Blood pressure medications (antihypertensives) are the other major group to watch. Animal research suggests royal jelly might lower blood pressure on its own, so combining it with blood pressure drugs could push your pressure too low.
Altogether, these interactions span 174 individual medications.
If you're on warfarin, any blood pressure drug, or any other prescription medication, use the interaction checker below with your exact drug names before you start this product. Your doctor or pharmacist can tell you whether it's safe for your situation.
