Russian Choice GI Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by NutriCology
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Russian Choice GI against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Russian Choice GI by NutriCology
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Russian Choice GI contains 4 active ingredients: a proprietary blend of Chinese Yam root extract, Lactobacillus rhamnosus lysate powder, Bai-Zhu Atractylodes root extract, and Poria cocos (mushroom) root extract. The formula also includes inactive ingredients — hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, microcrystalline cellulose, and L-leucine — which serve as capsule material and binders.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for what Russian Choice GI does isn't established in the data we hold. Bai-Zhu Atractylodes has been studied for anorexia, muscle wasting (cachexia), lung cancer, cold, and diarrhea, but all ratings come back as insufficient evidence.
Poria cocos shows the same pattern across cancer, chronic fatigue, dementia, diabetes, kidney disease in diabetes, and diarrhea — no reliable evidence supports its use for any of these yet. We have no effectiveness data for Chinese Yam or Lactobacillus rhamnosus lysate.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Human safety data for both atractylodes and poria cocos are limited, so use this product cautiously and ideally under guidance from your doctor or pharmacist. The most common side effects reported with atractylodes are allergic reaction, dry mouth, and nausea.
Poria cocos rarely causes allergic reactions, including allergic rhinitis and asthma. Atractylodes is rated possibly unsafe in pregnancy and should be avoided; safety while breastfeeding is unknown, so avoidance is recommended.
Poria cocos safety data in pregnancy and lactation are too limited — it's best avoided during both.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Russian Choice GI, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood thinners (anticoagulants) or antiplatelet drugs like aspirin or clopidogrel — atractylodes may increase bleeding risk. Also double-check if you're on aromatase inhibitors, sedatives or sleep aids, anticholinergic drugs (for muscle spasms or overactive bladder), cholinergic drugs (for Alzheimer's or myasthenia gravis), or hexobarbital.
No interactions are documented for the other two ingredients we have data for, but we hold no information on Chinese Yam extract or Lactobacillus rhamnosus lysate.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Russian Choice GI is a traditional herbal formula, but human safety and effectiveness data are sparse. If you take blood thinners, sedatives, cancer drugs, or medications for muscle control or brain conditions, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting — the ingredients may interact.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding are not appropriate times to use this product based on current safety information.

Russian Choice GI by NutriCology Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Russian Choice GI by NutriCology contains two ingredients with documented interactions: Bai-Zhu Atractylodes and Poria cocos.
The most serious concern is a Moderate-severity interaction between atractylodes and blood thinners (anticoagulants) and antiplatelet drugs — atractylodes may theoretically increase bleeding risk, though this hasn't been shown in human studies yet.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Atractylodes also carries Moderate interactions with aromatase inhibitors (used in hormone-sensitive breast cancer), which may have additive effects, and with hexobarbital, a sedating medication that atractylodes may prolong. There are also Minor interactions with certain drugs processed by your liver's CYP1A2 and CYP3A4 enzymes — atractylodes may lower or raise their levels, potentially changing how well they work.
Poria cocos has Moderate interactions with sedating medications (CNS depressants), anticholinergic drugs (used for muscle spasms, overactive bladder, and motion sickness), and cholinergic drugs (used for myasthenia gravis and Alzheimer's disease). We couldn't check Chinese Yam extract or Lactobacillus rhamnosus lysate powder — no interaction data are on file for them.
Altogether, these interactions span 1,032 individual medications. If you take any prescription medication, especially blood thinners, sedatives, or drugs for cancer, muscle spasms, or Alzheimer's disease, check your exact medications with the search tool on this page before starting.
