S-Adenosyl Methionine
S-adenosyl-l-methionine (SAM-e or SAMe) is a compound that is found naturally in the body and is involved in various processes, including the synthesis of neurotransmitters and the metabolism of hormones. SAM-e has been studied as a potential treatment for a variety of health conditions, including depression, osteoarthritis, and liver disease. As a dietary supplement, it is most often used for improving symptoms of depression and for osteoarthritis. In regard to depression, research suggests that SAM-e may be more effective than placebo in reducing the severity of depression and may be as effective as certain antidepressants for some individuals. However, more research is needed. Similarly, for osteoarthritis, some studies show that it is as effective in reducing symptoms for some individuals as NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen). There are a variety of different forms of SAM-e supplements available on the market, typically different salt forms (e.g., sulfate, sulfate-p-toluenesulfonate, and butanedisulfonate), which may affect how well it is absorbed.

- Natural SAMe 400
Jarrow Formulas SAMe 400 provides a full 400 mg SAMe (net yield) from 800 mg of SAMe tosylate disulfate. SAMe 400 is manufactured under low temperature and low humidity and is enteric-coated to ensure a biologically active product.
Contains More of the Active S,S Form
Found in all living cells, SAMe is a metabolite of methionine (an essential amino acid). SAMe is a chiral molecule consisting of two forms: (S,S) SAMe and (R,S) SAMe.
- Jarrow Formulas SAMe is made naturally by microbiological fermentation and then specially processed without chemical solvents to preserve 68-80% (S,S) SAMe, the highest active level available.
- S-Adenosyl Methionine
- Full Potency 400 mg SAMe (net yield) is derived from 800 mg of SAMe tosylate disulfate.
- Natural

Food-grade
EnteroGuard Coating
- S-Adenosyl Methionine
400 mg (net yield) SAMe from 800 mg SAMe tosylate disulfate
Highest concentration of Active S,S Form
- Enteric-Coated Tablets
- EnteroGuard is a proprietary cellulose-based, food-grade, pH-sensitive enteric coating that resists stomach acid and disintegrates in the less acidic pH of the upper intestines, where the SAMe is made available for absorption.

Formulation |
- The biologically active form is the (S,S) structure, while the (R,S) structure is biologically inactive.
- SAMe supports:
Joint Health
SAMe supports the production of healthy connective tissue through transulfuration. In this process, critical components of connective tissue known as glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), including glucosamine and chondroitin, are sulfated by SAMe metabolites to yield sulfated GAGs, such as glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin sulfate.
Brain Metabolism and Mood
SAMe methylation reactions are involved in the synthesis of phosphatidylcholine, a substantial constituent of grey matter within the brain and cellular membranes and precursor to acetylcholine, as well as neurotransmitters such as dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin, and has been shown to have a positive effect on mood.
Liver Function
SAMe metabolism supports the synthesis of glutathione (GSH), which is critical for antioxidant defenses and liver functions including phase II detoxification.
