Skullcap Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Herbal Terra
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Skullcap against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: certified organic Skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora) dried herb liquid extract. The other ingredient listed is menstruum, which is the liquid used to extract and preserve the herb — an inactive component, not a therapeutic one.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we hold on skullcap doesn't support a reliable rating for any of its traditional uses. Claims for epilepsy, stress, stroke, spasticity, contact dermatitis, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) all show insufficient reliable evidence to rate.
That means research hasn't yet established whether it works for these purposes — not that it definitely doesn't, just that we don't have solid proof either way.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Skullcap is often used only short-term, but the safety data are limited and product quality varies, so use it with care. The most common side effects reported are sedation, cognitive impairment, and digestive disturbances.
A single 100 mg dose does not appear to cause CNS effects, but higher doses — 200 mg or more — may trigger sedation and mental fog. Around 9% of people taking 350 mg three times daily for 2 weeks reported mild digestive upset.
One person on that same dose reported vivid dreams, though it's unclear if skullcap caused it. During pregnancy, there isn't enough safety data, so it's best avoided.
Breastfeeding safety is unknown as well, so avoid it while nursing. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using skullcap if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning either.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Skullcap by Herbal Terra, check any CNS depressants you're on — that includes sleeping pills (like zolpidem), sedatives, anti-anxiety medications (like benzodiazepines), and opioid pain relievers. Skullcap can add to their sedating and mind-fogging effects.
Run your medications through the interaction checker on this page, and confirm with your doctor or pharmacist before combining.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Skullcap may appeal to you if you're interested in traditional herbal approaches to stress or sleep, but the evidence for it doesn't yet support those uses. Be careful if you take any medication that slows your nervous system — including sleeping pills, sedatives, or anxiety drugs — because skullcap may add to that effect.
Check your exact medications with your doctor or pharmacist before starting, and let them know about any cognitive changes or digestive issues once you do.

Skullcap by Herbal Terra Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Skullcap by Herbal Terra can interact with medications, specifically those that slow down your central nervous system.
Its one active ingredient — skullcap extract — has documented moderate interactions with CNS depressants (sedatives, sleeping pills, anti-anxiety medications, and pain relievers in that family). The concern is additive effects: skullcap itself can cause sedation and cognitive impairment, and combining it with drugs that do the same thing may amplify both.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Animal and clinical research shows skullcap can impair how clearly you think and how alert you feel. If you take any CNS depressant — prescription or over-the-counter — you'll want to check it against the tool below before adding this product.
