HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Spinach Flakes Mint Flavor by TerraVita
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product has one active ingredient: spinach extract in glycerite form with mint flavoring. Glycerin and mint flavor are inactive ingredients — they're there to dissolve and flavor the liquid.
You're getting a concentrated spinach extract, not whole leaf spinach, so the dose and strength are different from eating fresh greens from your kitchen.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we hold on spinach extract doesn't establish whether it works for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, cognitive function, muscle strength, obesity, or polycystic ovary syndrome — the data for those uses is insufficient to rate. If you're considering this product for one of those reasons, talk with your doctor about what the research actually supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Spinach as food is well tolerated by most people and is considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Serious side effects are rare.
We do have reports of allergic reactions in sensitive individuals, lung inflammation from breathing spinach powder, occupational asthma in factory workers exposed to the powder, and contact dermatitis from handling spinach in one case. Infants under 4 months have rarely developed a blood condition (methemoglobinemia) from spinach, so this product isn't for that age group.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your pharmacist if you take warfarin (Coumadin) or any blood thinner — spinach interferes with its effect. Also flag any diabetes medication, including insulin, because spinach may lower your blood glucose.
These are Moderate-severity interactions, so they're important to discuss before you start.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you take warfarin or diabetes medications, you need to check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting this product — it can affect how both work. For everyone else, spinach extract is generally well tolerated, but the effectiveness for most claimed uses isn't established in the data we hold.
It's a food-based supplement, but that doesn't mean it's consequence-free alongside your prescriptions.

Spinach Flakes Mint Flavor by TerraVita Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
TerraVita's Spinach Flakes Mint Flavor contains one active ingredient — a spinach extract — that does interact with medications.
The main concern is with blood thinners, particularly warfarin (Coumadin). Spinach is rich in vitamin K, which can counteract how warfarin works.
Research shows that eating spinach with a single meal won't throw your anticoagulation off, but daily use for a week or longer will require your doctor to adjust your warfarin dose to keep you in the right range.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The second significant interaction is with diabetes medications. Spinach appears to lower blood glucose (blood sugar) levels, and there's a theoretical risk it could add to the effect of antidiabetes drugs and tip you into low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
If you take insulin or other diabetes meds, you'll want to monitor your blood glucose closely and watch for symptoms of low blood sugar — shakiness, sweating, or confusion — and let your doctor know you're using this product so they can adjust your dose if needed.
Altogether, these interactions span 87 individual medications. Use the search tool on this page to check your exact prescriptions before you start.

Spinach Flakes Glycerite Liquid Extract
Antidiabetes Drugs
There are claims that spinach leaves have hypoglycemic effects. Evidence from clinical research suggests that consumption of a spinach-rich meal reduces post-meal blood glucose levels. Theoretically, spinach might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs and increase the risk of hypoglycemia. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments might be necessary. Some antidiabetes drugs include glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (DiaBeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, pioglitazone (Actos), rosiglitazone (Avandia), and others.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Spinach contains vitamin K, which can interfere with the activity of warfarin.
In human research, although eating spinach with one meal does not result in coagulation test results outside the therapeutic range, daily consumption for one week necessitates dose adjustment of warfarin. Individuals using anticoagulants should consume a consistent daily amount of spinach to maintain the effect of anticoagulant therapy.
