Stamets 7 Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Stamets 7 against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Stamets 7 contains seven active mushroom ingredients: cordyceps, chaga, mesima, lion's mane, reishi, Royal Sun Blazei, and maitake. These are mushroom extracts traditionally used in herbal and functional medicine preparations.
There are no other inactive ingredients listed in the product.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for what these mushrooms actually do is limited. For cordyceps, athletic performance is rated possibly ineffective; sexual function, heart rhythm, asthma, and lung-related conditions lack sufficient reliable evidence.
Chaga, lion's mane, reishi, Royal Sun Blazei, and maitake all show insufficient reliable evidence for the conditions they're marketed for—including cognitive function, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and chemotherapy side effects. Reishi for high cholesterol is rated possibly ineffective.
The bottom line: we don't yet have solid evidence that any of these ingredients work for the purposes most commonly claimed.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
All six mushroom ingredients we checked are generally well tolerated short-term when taken by mouth, though long-term safety data are limited. Cordyceps can cause abdominal discomfort, constipation, or diarrhea, usually uncommon and sometimes reduced by taking it with food; there is one rare case report of liver inflammation (hepatitis), though it's unclear whether cordyceps was responsible.
Chaga contains high levels of oxalates and has been linked to kidney failure in a few cases of excessive consumption. Lion's mane may cause stomach discomfort, nausea, or skin rash.
Reishi commonly causes dizziness, dry mouth, itching, nausea, rash, and stomach upset, and rarely insomnia or headache; respiratory allergy to reishi spores can occur. Royal Sun Blazei and maitake cause gastrointestinal effects like diarrhea and nausea in some patients; Royal Sun Blazei has rare reports of serious liver problems and allergic reactions in people taking it during chemotherapy.
None of these ingredients have adequate safety data for pregnancy or breastfeeding—the data advises against use during both.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Stamets 7, double-check if you use blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel)—cordyceps, chaga, lion's mane, reishi at higher doses, and maitake all theoretically increase bleeding risk. Immunosuppressants (such as cyclosporine or prednisone) may be less effective when combined with cordyceps or chaga.
Antidiabetes drugs (insulin, metformin, sulfonylureas) carry moderate-severity risk with chaga, lion's mane, Royal Sun Blazei, and maitake—all may increase low blood sugar risk. Blood pressure medications interact with reishi and maitake at moderate severity.
Use the medication checker on this page for your specific drugs.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Stamets 7 is a multi-ingredient mushroom blend with broad theoretical interactions, especially with blood thinners, immunosuppressants, and diabetes medications. If you take any prescription drugs—particularly those classes—check with your pharmacist before starting this product.
There's also limited evidence these mushrooms actually work for what they're marketed to do. Talk to your pharmacist about whether it makes sense for your situation.

HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Host Defense Mushrooms Stamets 7 contains seven mushroom ingredients, six of which we could check for interactions.
Altogether, these interactions span 495 individual medications. The most serious interaction documented involves cordyceps and chaga with blood thinners (anticoagulants/antiplatelet drugs)—both theoretically increase bleeding risk, though this has not been reported in humans.
The effect is moderate severity.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Several other drug types are affected at moderate severity: cordyceps and chaga may interfere with immunosuppressants (drugs that lower immune function), and cordyceps theoretically has additive effects with testosterone. Three ingredients—chaga, lion's mane, and reishi—may increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when combined with antidiabetes drugs.
Reishi carries an additional moderate-severity interaction with blood pressure medications, potentially lowering blood pressure further, and at higher doses may increase bleeding risk with blood thinners. Maitake mushroom also interacts with blood pressure drugs and antidiabetes drugs at moderate severity, and there is a case report of it increasing the effect of the blood thinner warfarin.
Royal Sun Blazei (agaricus) theoretically increases hypoglycemia risk with antidiabetes drugs.
We could not check mesima for interactions. Run your exact medications through the search tool on this page to see whether any of these ingredients interact with your specific drugs.

For each ingredient in Stamets 7 with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Reishi
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, high doses of reishi mushroom might increase the risk of bleeding.
A dose of 1.5 grams daily of reishi mushroom does not seem to decrease platelet aggregation, but a higher dose of 3 grams daily does.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, reishi mushroom might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research suggests that reishi mushroom decreases blood sugar. However, in patients with type 2 diabetes, taking reishi mushroom does not reduce fasting glucose levels, and its effects on glycated hemoglobin are inconsistent.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, concurrent use of reishi mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Reishi mushroom has shown hypotensive activity in animal research. Clinical evidence suggests that reishi mushroom reduces blood pressure in some, but not all, patients with hypertension.
Chaga
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, chaga may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro and animal research suggests that chaga extract can inhibit platelet aggregation. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking chaga with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Animal research suggests that chaga might decrease blood glucose levels and increase insulin levels. This has not been reported in humans.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, chaga might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
In vitro research suggests that certain constituents of chaga stimulate immune function. This has not been reported in humans.
Lion's Mane
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, lion's mane mushroom may increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro research suggests that lion's mane mushroom extracts can inhibit platelet aggregation.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, lion's mane mushroom may have additive effects when used with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research suggests that an aqueous extract of lion's mane mushroom can reduce serum glucose and increase serum insulin.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, concurrent use of lion's mane mushroom might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
In animal and in vitro research, lion's mane mushroom polysaccharides stimulate the immune system.
Mesima
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, black hoof mushroom might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro, polysaccharides from black hoof mushroom grown in culture inhibit CYP1A2. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 2E1 (Cyp2E1) Substrates
Theoretically, black hoof mushroom might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2E1 substrates.
In vitro, polysaccharides from black hoof mushroom grown in culture inhibit CYP2E1. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, black hoof mushroom might reduce the effects of immunosuppressant medications.
In animal research, polysaccharides from black hoof mushroom and black hoof mushroom extract stimulate immune responses.
Maitake
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, combining maitake mushroom with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Clinical research shows that taking maitake mushroom polysaccharide (MMP) can lower blood glucose levels in patients with types 2 diabetes.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, combining maitake mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research shows that maitake mushroom can lower blood pressure.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
There is limited evidence that maitake mushroom may increase the anticoagulant effects of warfarin.
In a case report, a patient previously stabilized on warfarin developed an elevated international normalized ratio (INR) of 5.1 after taking maitake mushroom (Grifron-Pro Maitake D-Fraction) 1 drop/kg daily in three divided doses for one week. The elevated INR resolved after holding warfarin for two days, then reducing the dose by 11%. It is thought that the beta-glucan constituent of maitake mushroom might cause warfarin dissociation from proteins, resulting in increased free warfarin levels and increased warfarin effects.
Cordyceps
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, cordyceps may increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.
In vitro and animal research suggests that cordyceps extract inhibits platelet aggregation and function. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, concurrent use of cordyceps might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
Animal and in vitro research suggests that cordyceps stimulates the immune system. However, limited clinical research suggests that taking cordyceps may lower the necessary therapeutic dose of the immunosuppressant cyclosporine, which suggests that cordyceps may have an immunosuppressive effect.
Testosterone
Theoretically, concurrent use of cordyceps and testosterone might have additive effects.
Animal research suggests that cordyceps can increase testosterone levels. The clinical significance of this finding is unclear.
Royal Sun Blazei
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking agaricus mushroom with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In one clinical study in patients with type 2 diabetes who are stabilized on conventional oral hypoglycemic agents, 3 of 29 patients taking an agaricus mushroom extract 500 mg three times daily for 12 weeks reported hypoglycemia, compared to one of 29 patients in the placebo group.
