What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: vitamin B12 at 500 mcg per lozenge. B12 is an essential vitamin your body needs to make red blood cells, support your nervous system, and keep your DNA and metabolism working properly.
The inactive ingredients are mannitol, cellulose, stearic acid, and less than 2% of other additives.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The evidence supports B12 supplementation for treating vitamin B12 deficiency and Imerslund-Grasbeck disease (a rare inherited condition that prevents B12 absorption), where it's considered effective. It's also likely effective for cyanide poisoning when given medically.
For canker sores and postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain after shingles), the evidence is promising but incomplete—we'd call that possibly effective.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Vitamin B12 is generally very well tolerated. Your body excretes excess B12 in your urine, so there's no established upper limit for safety.
B12 is both needed and considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding at recommended amounts—follow your provider's guidance on dosing. Allergic reactions to B12 are rare but possible, including rash, itching, or hives; in extremely rare cases tied to correction of severe anemia, severe low potassium (hypokalemia) has been reported.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
If you take metformin (Glucophage) for type 2 diabetes, let your pharmacist know before you take this B-12 supplement—metformin can lower your B12 levels, so supplementing may help, but we want to make sure it's right for you.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
