Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: vitamin B12 at 500 micrograms per dose. B12 is an essential nutrient your body needs for nerve function, red blood cell formation, and DNA synthesis.
The sublingual form dissolves under your tongue, which some people find easier to take than swallowing a pill. The inactive ingredients — mannitol, vegetable cellulose, and stearic acid — are fillers and binders that help hold the tablet together.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Vitamin B12 is effective for treating B12 deficiency and a rare inherited condition called Imerslund-Grasbeck disease. It's also likely effective for cyanide poisoning.
For canker sores and a nerve pain condition called postherpetic neuralgia, the evidence suggests it may help, though the data isn't as strong.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
B12 is generally very well tolerated. Your body excretes excess B12 in urine, so there's no established upper limit — you can't overdose on it.
Most people have no side effects at all. Rare allergic reactions like rash, itching, or hives have been reported.
In very rare cases, correcting severe B12 deficiency has been linked to a dangerous drop in potassium levels, though this is extremely uncommon. B12 is considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding at normal recommended amounts — talk with your provider about what's right for you.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
If you take metformin (Glucophage) for diabetes, let your pharmacist know — metformin can lower B12 levels, so your doctor may want to check yours periodically while you're on both.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
This B12 supplement is a good option if you have a deficiency or can't absorb B12 well from food. If you take metformin for diabetes, ask your pharmacist to keep an eye on your B12 levels.
Since B12 is water-soluble and excess amounts leave your body naturally, it's very safe overall.
