Strong evidence
Vitamin B12 is proven effective for vitamin B12 deficiency and Imerslund-Grasbeck disease (a rare genetic condition that prevents B12 absorption). It's likely effective for cyanide poisoning.
The evidence shows it's possibly effective for canker sores and postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain after shingles), though the data for those uses is less robust.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
B12 is generally well-tolerated and very safe — your body excretes excess as waste through your urine, so there's no established upper limit. It's needed during pregnancy and breastfeeding and is considered safe at normal recommended amounts; follow your provider's dosing advice.
Side effects are rare. Allergic reactions like rash, itching, or hives can occur (and in one case report, someone with a cobalt allergy developed contact dermatitis from oral methylcobalamin).
Injection site reactions are noted with shots, not oral forms. There's a rare but serious risk: when B12 corrects a particular type of anemia, severe low potassium (hypokalemia) has been reported in case data.

Formula
Methylcobalamin is the active, coenzyme form of Vitamin B12. While the body can readily absorb Vitamin B12 as cobalamin, it must further convert it to a coenzyme form to become metabolically active. In this form, it is bio-identical to one of the two active forms found in the body. The “body-ready” Vitamin B12 in this formula is offered in a convenient nugget dosage form which is also suitable for vegans.
