HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Sulforaphane 20 mg by Double Wood Supplements
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: sulforaphane, a compound found naturally in cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and Brussels sprouts. The supplement provides 20 mg per capsule.
The capsule also contains two inactive ingredients — hypromellose and rice flour — which are fillers and binders that hold the capsule together.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for sulforaphane is mixed and limited. It's rated possibly effective for prostate cancer, meaning there's some promising research but we need more human studies to be confident.
For Helicobacter pylori (a stomach bacteria linked to ulcers), it's rated possibly ineffective. For allergic rhinitis (hay fever), asthma, and cancer broadly, we don't have enough reliable evidence to say whether it works or not.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Sulforaphane from food is considered safe, but concentrated supplements are less studied for long-term use, so we should be cautious. The most common side effects reported are bowel discomfort, heartburn, stomach upset, and vomiting.
Some people have also reported headache, insomnia, and irritability in clinical trials. There have been rare reports of seizures in males with autism taking sulforaphane, though it's unclear if the supplement caused them or if other factors were involved.
One study found that males aged 13–27 with autism gained an extra 4 pounds on average over 18 weeks when taking sulforaphane compared to placebo. For pregnancy, concentrated supplements have not been proven safe — the data advises sticking to normal food amounts instead.
While breastfeeding, there isn't enough information on supplement-level doses, so use caution and prefer dietary amounts.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this supplement, double-check any CYP3A4 substrates (including certain statins, blood pressure drugs, and immunosuppressants), CYP1A2 substrates (some antidepressants and pain relievers), and CYP2E1 substrates (acetaminophen and certain anesthetics) with a pharmacist. The mechanism is theoretically sound but hasn't been confirmed in humans.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Sulforaphane might be worth considering if you're interested in prostate health and willing to accept uncertain evidence. However, if you take any prescription medication, you should check your exact drugs first — this supplement potentially affects how your liver processes a large number of medications.
Anyone with a history of seizures or autism should talk with their doctor or pharmacist before starting it.

Sulforaphane 20 mg by Double Wood Supplements Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Sulforaphane 20 mg by Double Wood Supplements interacts with a substantial number of medications through three separate enzyme pathways in your liver.
The most serious concern is with CYP3A4 substrates (Moderate severity) — sulforaphane may increase their levels and effects by slowing how your liver breaks them down. This includes many common drugs: certain statins, some blood pressure medications, immunosuppressants, and others.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Sulforaphane also affects CYP1A2 substrates (Moderate severity), though the picture is mixed — it may both inhibit and increase the expression of this enzyme, so the net effect on drug levels is unpredictable. CYP1A2 substrates include some antidepressants, certain pain relievers, and caffeine-containing products.
Additionally, CYP2E1 substrates (Moderate severity) may accumulate because sulforaphane inhibits that enzyme as well; these include acetaminophen and certain anesthetics.
These interactions have not been reported in humans — the evidence comes from animal and lab studies — so the real-world impact is unknown. Still, if you take any prescription medication, check your exact drugs with the search tool below before starting this supplement.
Altogether, these interactions span 712 individual medications.

Sulforaphane
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, sulforaphane might alter the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
Animal and in vitro research shows that sulforaphane inhibits CYP1A2 enzyme activity. However, its precursor glucoraphanin also appears to increase the expression of the CYP1A2 enzyme, which could lead to increased metabolism of CYP1A2 substrates. These effects have not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 2E1 (Cyp2E1) Substrates
Theoretically, sulforaphane might increase the levels and effects of CYP2E1 substrates.
In vitro evidence shows that sulforaphane inhibits CYP2E1 enzymes. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, sulforaphane might increase the levels and effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
Animal and in vitro research shows that sulforaphane inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme activity and downregulates its expression. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
