Synbiotic Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Allergy Research Group Essential-Biotic
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Synbiotic against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Synbiotic by Allergy Research Group Essential-Biotic
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This liquid synbiotic contains three active ingredients: a proprietary blend, Bifidobacterium lactis UABla-12, Lactobacillus acidophilus DDS-1, and Xylo-oligosaccharides. The first two are live beneficial bacteria (probiotics) meant to support gut health; the third is a prebiotic fiber that feeds beneficial bacteria.
The product also contains silica as an inactive ingredient.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Lactobacillus acidophilus is rated possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome, Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis. It's rated possibly ineffective for atopic disease and has insufficient evidence for acute respiratory distress syndrome.
Effectiveness data for the other ingredients in this product are not on file.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactobacillus acidophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. Rarely, people taking it with other probiotics report mild digestive upset — epigastric discomfort, abdominal pain, indigestion, gas, bloating, diarrhea, vomiting, or burping — but these are uncommon.
In one trial, a combination that included Lactobacillus acidophilus was linked to a few cases of rash and itching, though it's unclear whether L. acidophilus was responsible. Very rarely, L. acidophilus has been found in serious infections in vulnerable people; these cases likely involve bacteria that moved from other parts of the body rather than direct harm from the probiotic itself.
For pregnancy, Lactobacillus acidophilus is rated possibly safe. Lactation data are not on file.
Because individual safety can depend on your health history, check with your doctor or pharmacist before you start.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your pharmacist or doctor if you're on any antibiotic drugs. Antibiotics can kill the live bacteria in this probiotic, making it less effective — spacing them apart (ask your provider how far) helps.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a probiotic-prebiotic blend that may help with certain digestive and vaginal health concerns, though the evidence is modest. If you're on antibiotics, time them separately — don't take them at the same time as this product.
Talk it over with your pharmacist before starting, especially if you have any health conditions or take multiple medications.

Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
