Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: taurine, an amino acid your body produces naturally and also gets from animal proteins like meat and fish. Taurine plays roles in heart function, muscle contraction, and bile acid formation in the liver.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: neurological development, eye health, cardiovascular health, athletic performance.
  • We looked for evidence on: Athletic performance, Physical performance, Age-related macular degeneration (AMD), Congestive heart failure (CHF), Hyperlipidemia, Hypertension — and 4 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Taurine is rated "Possibly Effective" for Congestive heart failure (CHF) (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Taurine is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Age-related macular degeneration (AMD), Athletic performance, Exercise-induced muscle soreness, Hyperlipidemia, and more.

Taurine is rated possibly effective for hepatitis and congestive heart failure (CHF), a condition where the heart doesn't pump blood efficiently. For obesity, the evidence rates it as possibly ineffective.

These ratings reflect what we know from the studies on file — more research would help clarify how well it actually works for these uses.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Taurine is generally well tolerated in typical doses for up to a year. The most common side effects reported are constipation, diarrhea, and indigestion.

Rare hypersensitivity reactions have been reported, particularly in people with a history of allergies to sulfonamides or sulfites. Long-term safety beyond one year is less certain, and supplement-level doses haven't been studied as thoroughly as we'd like — use only under medical guidance if you're taking it long-term.
