Triphala Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Triphala against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Triphala by Prajna Ayurveda
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Triphala is a traditional three-fruit blend with 6 ingredients total. The active components we can identify are amla (Indian gooseberry), supplied as both amla powder and amla fruit extract (dry), plus Belleric Myrobalan and Chebulic Myrobalan in powder and extract forms.
The inactive ingredients — hypromellose, cellulose, silica, and stearic acid — are the capsule and binders; they help hold the formula together.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The amla in this product shows possibly effective evidence for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and dyslipidemia (high blood fats). For high cholesterol and male-pattern baldness, the evidence we have isn't strong enough to rate.
We hold no effectiveness data on the Belleric or Chebulic Myrobalans by themselves.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Amla is generally well tolerated as a food, though supplement safety at higher doses is less studied. The safety data we have advises against supplement doses during pregnancy, and there's too little information to recommend it during breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice on either.
In clinical trials, a small number of people reported stomach upset or indigestion, one person reported fatigue, and three reported joint or muscle pain.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your pharmacist if you take blood thinners (anticoagulants), antiplatelet drugs like clopidogrel (Plavix), aspirin, or diabetes medications. Amla can increase bleeding risk and lower blood sugar.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you take blood thinners, antiplatelet drugs, or diabetes medications, you need to check with your pharmacist before adding this. The amla in here can affect how all three work.
Otherwise, this blend is generally tolerated well, though we don't have as much safety data on supplement doses as we'd like.

Triphala by Prajna Ayurveda Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Triphala by Prajna Ayurveda contains Indian gooseberry (amla) in two forms — powder and dry extract — and both carry the same interaction concerns.
The most serious ones involve blood thinners (anticoagulants) and antiplatelet drugs like clopidogrel (Plavix). Research shows amla reduces how easily your blood clots: it cuts platelet stickiness by about 24% to 36% and lengthens bleeding time by roughly 3.8 to 5.9 seconds.
If you take a blood thinner, combining it with this product could raise your bleeding risk, though the evidence on how big that risk is remains mixed.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
You'll also want to flag diabetes medications. Amla can lower blood sugar, and paired with drugs that do the same, you might end up with low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Your doctor may need to adjust your diabetes medication dose. Aspirin sits in the same category as the other antiplatelet agents — same theoretical bleeding risk, same conflicting research.
We could not check two other ingredients in this blend: Belleric Myrobalan powder, Chebulic Myrobalan powder, Belleric myrobalan Fruit Extract (Dry), and Chebulic myrobalan Fruit Extract (Dry). Altogether, these interactions span 207 individual medications.
Use the medication checker on this page to look up your exact drugs before you start.
