Brahmi Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Brahmi against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Brahmi by Prajna Ayurveda
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Brahmi contains two active ingredients, both forms of bacopa: Bacopa monnieri powder and Synapsa (a branded bacopa extract). The product also holds inactive ingredients — hypromellose, cellulose, silica, and stearic acid — which are the capsule material and binders.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for bacopa is not established for any of the uses listed in the data we hold. These include Alzheimer disease, cognitive function, cognitive impairment, ADHD, attention problems, sexual dysfunction, and back pain — all show insufficient reliable evidence to rate.
That means the research so far hasn't been strong enough to say whether it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Bacopa is generally well tolerated, but quality and long-term safety data are limited. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal: abdominal cramps, diarrhea, bloating, nausea, and indigestion occur in 12% to 30% of people who take it.
Headache, dry mouth, drowsiness, insomnia, and vivid dreams have also been reported. There isn't enough safety information to recommend bacopa during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
If you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing, talk with your pharmacist or doctor before starting.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Brahmi, have a pharmacist check any medications you take that are broken down by liver enzymes CYP1A2, CYP2C9, CYP2C19, or CYP3A4 — many common drugs fall into these categories. Also check if you take cholinergic drugs, anticholinergic drugs, cevimeline (Evoxac), or thyroid hormone.
Use the interaction tool on this page with your exact medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Bacopa is used for brain health and cognition, but we don't have strong evidence it works for those purposes yet. If you take medications processed by your liver or any cholinergic drugs, check your full medication list with us first — the interaction risk is real.
Bacopa is generally easy on the stomach for most people, but talk to your pharmacist if you have concerns.

Brahmi by Prajna Ayurveda Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Brahmi by Prajna Ayurveda contains bacopa (listed as both Bacopa monnieri powder and the branded extract Synapsa), which has documented interactions with several medication types.
The most serious concern is with drugs that depend on liver enzymes (cytochrome P450 substrates) — specifically CYP1A2, CYP2C9, CYP2C19, and CYP3A4 substrates. Bacopa may slow how your liver clears these medications, potentially raising their levels and side effects.
Research is mixed on how strong this effect is in real life, but the interaction is rated Moderate.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Backopa also interacts with cholinergic drugs (medications that work through acetylcholine, a brain chemical) — it may add to their effects. It can work against anticholinergic drugs, which do the opposite.
There's also a Moderate interaction with cevimeline (Evoxac), used for dry mouth in Sjögren syndrome; one case reported serious symptoms when the two were combined. Finally, bacopa may have minor additive effects with thyroid hormone.
Altogether, these interactions span 931 individual medications. Use the interaction checker below with your exact prescription list before starting this product.

Brahmi Blend
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, taking gotu kola might increase the sedative effects of CNS depressants.
In vitro research suggests that gotu kola may have sedative effects via binding of GABA receptors.
Hepatotoxic Drugs
Theoretically, taking gotu kola with hepatotoxic drugs might have additive adverse effects.
There are at least four case reports of hepatotoxicity associated with the use of gotu kola. However, more information is needed to determine if gotu kola was the causative factor in these cases.
