Propranolol falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Bacopa interacts with.

Theoretically, bacopa might increase the levels and adverse effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
Research on the effects of bacopa extracts on CYP1A2 enzymes is conflicting. Some in vitro evidence shows that bacopa extract can moderately and non-competitively inhibit CYP1A2, while other in vitro evidence suggests that any effect is unlikely to be clinically significant.

Here's the gist for propranolol and bacopa. Propranolol is partly broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. In test-tube studies, bacopa might slow that enzyme down a little. If that happened in your body, propranolol could build up slightly, which in theory could make its effects stronger, think more tiredness, dizziness, a slower heartbeat, or lower blood pressure than usual.

The honest part: this is only a theoretical concern based on lab studies, and the research even disagrees with itself. Propranolol is not a prodrug, so no flip here. For most people this is unlikely to be a real problem, but if you take both regularly, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor and watch how you feel.

Here's the gist: bacopa, in test-tube studies only, seems to mildly block a liver enzyme called CYP2C19, which is one of the enzymes that helps clear propranolol from your body. Propranolol is the finished, active medicine (not a prodrug that needs switching on), so if that enzyme slows down, the drug could build up a bit. In theory, that might mean a stronger effect: a slower heart rate, lower blood pressure, lightheadedness, or feeling unusually tired.

I want to be honest, though. This is only based on lab work, not real people, so we truly don't know if it matters in everyday life. Culinary amounts aren't a concern, but if you take concentrated bacopa supplements daily, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on how you feel.

Bacopa is an Ayurvedic herb most often used for memory and thinking. Some small studies suggest it may modestly help memory when taken regularly for several weeks, but the evidence is limited and quality varies. It is generally well tolerated but can cause stomach upset, and it should be avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding due to a lack of safety data.

What Is Propranolol (Cardiovascular) Used For?

Brand names: Inderal LA, Inderal, Angilol, Syprol, Inderal Injection, Half-Inderal LA, Bedranol SR, Half Beta Prograne, Beta Prograne, Lopranol LA, Slo-Pro, InnoPran XL

This intravenous (IV) form of propranolol is used in hospital or clinical settings to treat dangerous heart rhythm problems. It is generally reserved for life-threatening arrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythms) or those that occur during anesthesia.

Specific conditions it treats include fast heart rates coming from the upper chambers of the heart (supraventricular tachycardia), certain arrhythmias caused by digitalis toxicity, dangerous ventricular rhythms that haven't responded to other treatments, and fast heart rates caused by excess adrenaline-like substances during surgery.
