Colchicine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Bacopa interacts with.

Theoretically, bacopa might increase the levels and adverse effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
Research on the effects of bacopa extracts on CYP3A4 enzymes is conflicting. Some in vitro evidence suggests that bacopa extract can moderately and competitively inhibit CYP3A4, while other in vitro evidence suggests that any effect is unlikely to be clinically significant.

Here's the short version: your body relies on an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear colchicine out of your system. In lab tests, bacopa might slow that enzyme down a bit. If it does, colchicine could build up higher than expected, and that's worth respecting because colchicine has a narrow safety window. Too much can cause stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, and at higher levels more serious effects on muscles or blood counts.

That said, the evidence here is weak. It comes only from test-tube studies, and even those disagree about whether the effect matters in real people. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but since colchicine is unforgiving, please run this past your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Bacopa is an Ayurvedic herb most often used for memory and thinking. Some small studies suggest it may modestly help memory when taken regularly for several weeks, but the evidence is limited and quality varies. It is generally well tolerated but can cause stomach upset, and it should be avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding due to a lack of safety data.

What Is Colchicine Used For?

Brand names: Colchicine, Colsalide Improved, Mitigare, Colcrys, Gloperba, Lodoco

Colchicine tablets and capsules are used to prevent gout flares in adults, and colchicine tablets are also used to treat acute gout flares when taken at the first sign of a flare. Colchicine tablets are additionally approved for familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) — a hereditary inflammatory condition — in adults and children 4 years and older.

Lodoco (colchicine tablet) is specifically indicated to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, coronary revascularization, and cardiovascular death in adults with established atherosclerotic disease or multiple cardiovascular risk factors. Colchicine is not a pain reliever and should not be used for pain from other causes.
