Chlorpromazine falls under ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS — the group Bacopa interacts with.

Theoretically, concurrent use might decrease the effectiveness of both agents.
Bacopa seems to inhibit acetylcholinesterase and might increase acetylcholine levels, which could counteract the effects of anticholinergic drugs. Similarly, anticholinergic drugs might counteract the cholinergic effects of bacopa.

Here's the gist with bacopa and chlorpromazine (Thorazine). Chlorpromazine has anticholinergic activity, meaning part of how it works involves blocking the brain chemical acetylcholine. Bacopa appears to do the opposite in lab studies, nudging acetylcholine levels up. So on paper, the two may work against each other, and each could slightly blunt the other's effect.

I want to be honest about how soft this is. It's a theoretical concern based on pharmacology, not real patient reports, and it's rated as only a possible, moderate interaction. In practice it's unlikely to cause a dramatic problem, but if you ever notice your symptoms feel less controlled, mention it. Please don't stop or change anything on your own. Bacopa is an Ayurvedic herb most often used for memory and thinking. Some small studies suggest it may modestly help memory when taken regularly for several weeks, but the evidence is limited and quality varies. It is generally well tolerated but can cause stomach upset, and it should be avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding due to a lack of safety data.

What Is Chlorpromazine Used For?

Chlorpromazine is used to manage psychotic disorders and treat schizophrenia. It also controls nausea and vomiting, relieves restlessness and apprehension before surgery, and controls the manic phase of manic-depressive illness. Other uses include relief of intractable hiccups, treatment of acute intermittent porphyria, and use as an adjunct in tetanus treatment.

In children ages 1 to 12, it is used for severe behavioral problems marked by explosive or combative behavior, and for short-term treatment of hyperactive children with conduct disorders. The oral forms are also approved for the management of manifestations of psychotic disorders broadly, in addition to the uses shared with the injection form.
