What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: Ceylon cinnamon, the inner bark of the cinnamon tree native to Sri Lanka. It comes in a capsule with pullulan, an inactive ingredient used as the capsule material.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for Ceylon cinnamon is limited. For obesity and type 2 diabetes, the data we hold shows it's possibly ineffective — meaning the evidence doesn't support it for those uses.
For allergic rhinitis (hay fever), the common cold, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), we don't have enough reliable evidence to say whether it works or doesn't.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Orally, Ceylon cinnamon is generally well tolerated, and adverse effects are uncommon. The most common side effects reported are bloating, indigestion (dyspepsia), and nausea.
There's one case report of bleeding complications after very high doses (1 tablespoon daily for 10 months), and a few cases of allergic skin reactions or itching in people who took it orally. Food amounts of cinnamon are likely fine, but supplement-strength doses haven't been as thoroughly studied.
We don't have enough data on the safety of supplement doses during breastfeeding, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're nursing.
