Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: vitamin B12 at 500 micrograms per tablet. B12 is an essential vitamin your body needs for nerve function, red blood cell formation, and DNA synthesis — your body can't make it on its own, so it has to come from food or supplements.
The tablet also contains inactive ingredients (fillers and binders) to hold it together: calcium carbonate, calcium phosphate, microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, and silica.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The data shows vitamin B12 is effective for treating B12 deficiency and a rare condition called Imerslund-Grasbeck disease. It's also rated likely effective for cyanide poisoning — an emergency use.
For canker sores and a type of nerve pain after shingles (postherpetic neuralgia), the evidence is less solid; it's rated possibly effective, meaning the data isn't yet strong enough to call it proven.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
B12 is generally very well tolerated, and your body clears any excess through urine, so there's no established upper limit to worry about. The most common side effects are rare — injection site reactions if you get it as a shot.
Allergic reactions like rash or itching can happen with oral B12, and in very rare cases, correcting severe B12 deficiency has been linked to a serious drop in potassium (low potassium). B12 is considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding at recommended doses; follow your provider's guidance on how much you need.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
The main medication to double-check is metformin (Glucophage) — it can lower B12 levels, which is why B12 supplementation is sometimes used alongside it. Beyond that, no other interactions are documented in our data for this product.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
If you're deficient in B12, on metformin for diabetes, or recovering from cyanide exposure, your doctor may recommend this. If you take metformin, talk to your pharmacist about whether you need monitoring.
B12 itself is very safe, but any supplement should be discussed with your provider, especially in pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
