Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin), 500 micrograms per tablet. B12 is an essential vitamin your body needs for nerve function, red blood cell formation, and DNA synthesis.
The tablet also contains inactive ingredients — microcrystalline cellulose, dicalcium phosphate, magnesium stearate, and stearic acid — which are binders and fillers that help hold the tablet together.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Vitamin B12 is effective for treating B12 deficiency and a rare genetic condition called Imerslund-Grasbeck disease. It's also likely effective for cyanide poisoning.
For canker sores and postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain after shingles), the evidence is less certain — the data rates it possibly effective, meaning some benefit has been seen but more research is needed.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
B12 is generally very well tolerated. Excess B12 is removed through your urine, so there's no established upper limit for how much is too much.
Orally taken B12 is safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding at normal recommended amounts — in fact, B12 is needed during both; follow your healthcare provider's guidance on dosing. Allergic reactions to oral B12 are rare but possible, particularly rash or itching.
Very rarely, correcting severe B12 deficiency can cause a serious drop in potassium (low blood potassium) — your doctor monitors for this if you have that condition.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
If you're taking metformin for diabetes, let your pharmacist know you're adding B12 — it's a minor interaction, but worth monitoring together. No other medications have documented interactions with this product in our data.
The bottom line
