HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Wobenzym Plus by Mucos USA
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Wobenzym Plus contains three active ingredients: bromelain (an enzyme from pineapple), trypsin (a digestive enzyme), and rutoside trihydrate (a bioflavonoid). These are combined with inactive ingredients—microcrystalline cellulose, calcium phosphate, hydroxypropyl cellulose, vegetable stearate, enteric coating, and purified water—that help form and protect the tablet.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we hold doesn't establish that any of these three ingredients work reliably for their traditional uses. Bromelain has insufficient reliable evidence for hay fever, burns, cancer, nerve pain from chemotherapy, chronic vein problems, and diabetes.
Trypsin similarly lacks established evidence for sprains, osteoarthritis, radiation burns, wound healing, muscle soreness, and multiple sclerosis. Rutoside trihydrate also shows insufficient evidence for aging skin, autism, inflammatory bowel disease, diabetes, respiratory infections, and hemorrhoids.
If you're considering this product for a specific condition, talk with your pharmacist about what the research actually supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Bromelain is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth in the short term, though long-term safety data are limited. The most common side effects are digestive—diarrhea, gas, upset stomach, and headache—and some people report allergic reactions ranging from minor itching and hives to more serious symptoms like throat tightness and asthma if inhaled.
Trypsin taken with other enzymes can cause mild to moderate stomach upset including nausea, heartburn, and stomach pain. Rutoside trihydrate is generally well tolerated in food and short-term use, but it may cause headache, flushing, or rash in some people.
For pregnancy: bromelain and trypsin lack sufficient safety data and should be avoided, while rutoside trihydrate shows limited data at supplement doses—you should speak with your doctor. All three ingredients lack solid safety information for breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Wobenzym Plus, double-check with your pharmacist or doctor if you're on blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs like warfarin or clopidogrel (Moderate risk of increased bleeding), antidiabetes medications (Moderate risk of low blood sugar), or tetracycline antibiotics like doxycycline (Minor risk of higher antibiotic levels). No interactions are documented for trypsin, but we hold no data on it.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Wobenzym Plus may be worth discussing with your pharmacist if you're interested in enzyme supplements, but the evidence for its effectiveness hasn't been established for the conditions it's traditionally used for. If you take blood thinners, antiplatelet drugs, tetracycline antibiotics, or diabetes medications, you need to check this product with your pharmacist first—the interactions are documented and potentially meaningful.
Pregnant or breastfeeding? Avoid it unless your doctor says otherwise.

Wobenzym Plus by Mucos USA Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Wobenzym Plus by Mucos USA contains three active enzymes, and two of them have documented interactions with medications.
The most serious concern is bromelain's interaction with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (anticoagulants and antiplatelet medications)—a Moderate severity issue. Bromelain may have mild blood-thinning effects itself and can increase your bleeding risk if you're already on these medications.
There's even a case report of minor bruising when someone took bromelain with naproxen, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Bromelain also has a Minor interaction with tetracycline antibiotics; lab work suggests it might increase how much of these antibiotics your body absorbs, though one human study found no difference in blood levels. Rutoside trihydrate (a bioflavonoid in this product) may lower blood sugar, so taking it with antidiabetes drugs carries a Moderate risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
We could not check trypsin for interactions—we hold no interaction data for it.
Altogether, these interactions span 226 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to verify your specific drugs before starting this product.

For each ingredient in Wobenzym Plus with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Bromelain
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Bromelain may have antiplatelet effects and may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
There is one case report of a patient experiencing minor bruising while taking bromelain with naproxen. Bromelain is thought to have antiplatelet activity. Whether this interaction is of concern with topical bromelain is unclear. Interference with coagulation of burn wounds has been reported in a patient receiving bromelain-based enzymatic debridement. However, observational research has found that topical bromelain debridement is not associated with increases or decreases in laboratory markers of coagulation when compared with surgical debridement.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Theoretically, bromelain might increase levels of tetracycline antibiotics.
Laboratory research suggests that bromelain might increase the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics. However, a study in healthy adults reported no difference in tetracycline plasma levels when a 500 mg dose was taken with or without bromelain 80 mg.
Rutoside Trihydrate
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking rutin with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Animal research suggests that rutin has hypoglycemic effects.
