Clinical
Acetaminophen is used to relieve mild to moderate pain and to reduce fever. Acetaminophen is in a class of medications called analgesics (pain relievers) and antipyretics (fever reducers). It works by changing the way the body senses pain and by cooling the body.
Read the full MedlinePlus article ↗This is an over-the-counter kit containing separate daytime and nighttime formulations for cold and flu symptoms. The daytime product contains acetaminophen (a pain reliever and fever reducer), dextromethorphan (a cough suppressant), guaifenesin (an expectorant to help clear mucus), and phenylephrine (a nasal decongestant). The nighttime formulation adds diphenhydramine, an antihistamine that causes drowsiness. As an OTC monograph drug, this product is marketed under FDA's established rules for over-the-counter cold and flu remedies rather than as an individually approved application.
