Levofloxacin Injection (given as an intravenous infusion) is used in adults to treat bacterial infections including community-acquired and hospital-acquired pneumonia, complicated and uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections, complicated and uncomplicated urinary tract infections, acute pyelonephritis (kidney infection), chronic bacterial prostatitis, inhalational anthrax (post-exposure), and plague.
It is also approved in children 6 months and older for inhalational anthrax (post-exposure) and plague.For three conditions — uncomplicated urinary tract infections, acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, and acute bacterial sinusitis — levofloxacin injection should only be used when no other treatment options are available, because the risks of this drug class are serious and these conditions may resolve on their own.
