Azacitidine injection is used to treat adult patients with specific subtypes of myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) — a group of conditions where the bone marrow does not make enough healthy blood cells.

The MDS subtypes it treats include refractory anemia (RA), refractory anemia with ringed sideroblasts (RARS, when accompanied by low white cells, low platelets, or a need for transfusions), refractory anemia with excess blasts (RAEB), refractory anemia with excess blasts in transformation (RAEB-T), and chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMMoL).Vidaza (azacitidine for injection) also has approved pediatric use information, though that information is not included in all labeling versions due to marketing exclusivity.
