CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Chlorpheniramine, Methscopolamine
Chlorpheniramine, Methscopolamine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group African Wild Potato interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Allerx combines chlorpheniramine (an antihistamine) with methscopolamine (a drying agent). Part of how your body clears chlorpheniramine relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab dish studies, African wild potato slowed that same enzyme quite a bit. In theory, that could let chlorpheniramine build up a little, which might mean more of its usual effects: drowsiness, dry mouth, blurry vision, constipation, or trouble urinating.
Here's the honest part: this concern comes only from test-tube work, and when the supplement was tested in real people with another CYP3A4 drug, it didn't change levels much. So the risk is probably low. Still, since both can make you sleepy and dried out, I'd run it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
