Why this applies to Fluticasone

Fluticasone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group African Wild Potato interacts with.

In vitro evidence shows that African wild potato extract can inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) enzyme activity by up to 86%. Theoretically, African wild potato might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4. However, in human research, African wild potato does not seem to affect the pharmacokinetics of Efavirenz, a CYP3A4 substrate. Until more is known, use African wild potato cautiously or avoid in patients taking drugs metabolized by CYP3A4. Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.

Here's the gist for fluticasone (whether it's the nasal spray like Flonase or the inhaler like Flovent): your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break it down. In lab tests, African Wild Potato slowed that enzyme quite a bit. In theory, that could let more fluticasone hang around in your body than usual.

What might that look like? With higher steroid exposure over time, you could see things like easy bruising, irritation in the nose or throat, or other steroid-related effects. I want to be honest though, this concern comes only from lab studies, not real people, and in one human study the potato didn't change levels of a similar drug. So the risk is uncertain, not proven. Since safety isn't well mapped out, I'd run it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.
