Why this applies to Tazemetostat Hydrobromide

Tazemetostat Hydrobromide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group African Wild Potato interacts with.

In vitro evidence shows that African wild potato extract can inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) enzyme activity by up to 86%. Theoretically, African wild potato might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4. However, in human research, African wild potato does not seem to affect the pharmacokinetics of Efavirenz, a CYP3A4 substrate. Until more is known, use African wild potato cautiously or avoid in patients taking drugs metabolized by CYP3A4. Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.

Your cancer medicine Tazverik (tazemetostat) is cleared from the body mainly by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In test tube studies, African Wild Potato slowed that same enzyme quite a lot. The worry here is theoretical: if it slowed CYP3A4 in real life, tazemetostat could build up higher than intended, which might mean more side effects like fatigue, nausea, low blood counts (raising infection or bleeding risk), or muscle and joint aches.

I want to be honest about the evidence. This is based only on lab work, not people, and a human study with a similar drug showed no real change. So this isn't a reason to panic, but with a serious cancer treatment I'd play it safe. Please check with your oncologist or pharmacist before adding this supplement.

What Is Tazemetostat Used For?

Brand name: Tazverik

Tazverik (tazemetostat) tablets are used to treat adults and patients aged 16 and older with metastatic or locally advanced epithelioid sarcoma (a rare soft-tissue cancer) that cannot be completely removed by surgery.

Tazverik is also used in adults with relapsed or refractory follicular lymphoma — meaning the lymphoma has come back or stopped responding to treatment — either when the tumor carries a specific EZH2 gene mutation (confirmed by an FDA-approved test) after at least two prior treatments, or when there are no other satisfactory treatment options. Both uses were approved based on response rates, and continued approval may depend on results from ongoing confirmatory studies.
