Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ORGANIC ANION TRANSPORTER 3 (OAT3) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Zavegepant Hydrochloride
Zavegepant Hydrochloride falls under ORGANIC ANION TRANSPORTER 3 (OAT3) SUBSTRATES — the group African Wild Potato interacts with.
Some substrates of OAT3 include cephalosporins, famotidine (Pepcid), furosemide (Lasix), hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ), methotrexate, NSAIDs, probenecid, ranitidine (Zantac).
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Zavegepant (Zavzpret) is the nasal spray used to stop a migraine once it starts. Your kidneys help clear it from your body using a transporter called OAT3. Here's the wrinkle: in test-tube studies, African Wild Potato appears to block OAT3. If that same effect happens in people, your body could hold onto more zavegepant than usual, which might mean stronger side effects like a funny taste in your mouth, nausea, or nasal discomfort.
I want to be honest with you, though. This is only lab-based evidence, not something proven in real patients, so nobody knows if it truly matters. It's a possible concern, not a sure thing. Before pairing them, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor so they can weigh in for your situation.
