Zolmitriptan falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Agar interacts with.

Agar forms a thick gel, which may disrupt the absorption of nutrients and medications. Animal research suggests that consuming a diet consisting of 5% to 10% agar alters the absorption of nutrients from the diet. In one study, consuming a diet composed of 10% agar reduced the absorption of all evaluated minerals. Theoretically, agar may also impair the absorption of oral drugs.

Here's the gist with Zomig (zolmitriptan) and agar. Agar is a seaweed fiber that swells into a thick gel in your stomach and gut. In theory, that gel could trap a little of your zolmitriptan and slow or lower how much gets absorbed. If less drug makes it into your bloodstream, your migraine pill might work a bit slower or not quite as well, which is frustrating when you're trying to knock out a bad headache fast.

I want to be honest about how soft this concern is. It comes only from animal studies and general pharmacology, not from real people taking these two together, so I'd file it as very minor. To play it safe, you can separate them by a couple of hours. If you use agar regularly as a supplement, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

Agar is a plant-based gel made from red seaweed that is widely used as a vegetarian alternative to gelatin and as a source of dietary fiber. It is sometimes taken as a bulk-forming laxative or weight-loss aid, but solid human evidence for these health uses is limited. About Zolmitriptan

What Is Zolmitriptan Used For?

Brand name: Zomig

Zolmitriptan is used to treat migraine headaches as they happen — it is not a daily preventive medication. Tablets (including Zomig tablets) and orally disintegrating tablets are approved for acute migraine treatment in adults. Zolmitriptan nasal spray and Zomig Nasal Spray are also approved for adults and for adolescents 12 years of age and older.

It works for migraines with or without aura (the visual or sensory changes some people get before a headache). It is not approved for cluster headaches, and it should only be used once a migraine diagnosis has been clearly established by a healthcare provider.
