Flurbiprofen falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Algin interacts with.

Theoretically, algin can alter the absorption of oral drugs. Laboratory research shows that algin, when consumed as part of the diet or used as a thickening agent in infant formula, reduces the absorption of certain minerals. Also, algin has been used as a tablet binder and disintegrant to enhance drug bioavailability. To avoid changes in absorption, take algin 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the gist: algin is basically a soluble seaweed fiber that swells into a thick gel in your stomach. When you swallow a fiber gel like this at the same time as your flurbiprofen, there's a chance it could trap a little of the medicine and slow or slightly reduce how much your body soaks up. For an anti-inflammatory like flurbiprofen, that mainly means it might not relieve your arthritis pain and stiffness quite as well if absorption dips.

I want to be honest that this is a theoretical concern, based on lab work and how these substances behave, not real-world reports of problems. It's rated minor. To stay on the safe side, a simple gap helps: take your flurbiprofen first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before the algin. If you're unsure, your pharmacist can help you space them.

Flurbiprofen tablets (sold as Flurbiprofen and Lurbiro) are used to relieve the pain, swelling, and stiffness of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.

Flurbiprofen Sodium eye drops are a separate product used during eye surgery — specifically to keep the pupil from constricting (getting smaller) while the procedure is underway. This use applies only to the ophthalmic (eye drop) form.
