Allspice and Ombitasvir, Paritaprevir Ritonavir

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Ombitasvir, Paritaprevir Ritonavir and Allspice in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

About Allspice

What is Allspice?

Allspice
  • Digestive upset and gas
  • Muscle and joint pain (topical)
  • Toothache and oral discomfort
  • Antimicrobial uses
  • Flavoring in food and drinks

Allspice is a popular cooking spice from a Caribbean evergreen tree that has long been used in folk medicine for digestion, pain, and infections. There is very little high-quality human research to support these medicinal uses, so it is best thought of as a flavorful food rather than a proven treatment. Amounts used in cooking are generally considered safe, but concentrated extracts and the essential oil should be used carefully.

Pimenta dioica · Myrtaceae · Dried unripe berries, leaves, and essential oil · Whole or ground spice, tea, extract, essential oil

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Allspice is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Allspice record says about it on its own.

Allspice: dosing

There is no established standard medicinal dose for allspice. Most people only encounter it in the small amounts used to flavor food, which are considered safe. For supplements, teas, or extracts, there is not enough reliable research to recommend a specific amount. If you choose to use a product, follow the directions on the label and do not exceed them. The essential oil is highly concentrated and should only be used externally and well diluted, never taken by mouth without professional guidance.

About Ombitasvir, Paritaprevir, and Ritonavir

What Is Ombitasvir, Paritaprevir, and Ritonavir Used For?

Brand name: Technivie

  • The combination of ombitasvir, paritaprevir, and ritonavir is usually used in combination with ribavirin (Copegus, Rebetol), but sometimes it is used alone to treat a certain type of chronic (long-term) hepatitis C infection (swelling of the liver caused by a virus). Ombitasvir is a hepatitis C virus (HCV) NS5A inhibitor. It works by stopping the virus that causes hepatitis C from spreading inside the body. Paritaprevir is a protease inhibitor. It works by decreasing the amount of HCV in the body. Ritonavir is a protease inhibitor. It helps to increase the amount of paritaprevir in the body so that the medication will have a greater effect. It is not known if ombitasvir, paritaprevir, or ritonavir prevent the spread of hepatitis C to other people.
