Alpha-ketoglutarate (akg) and Digoxin

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Digoxin and Alpha-ketoglutarate (akg) in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Alpha-ketoglutarate (akg) at all — not against Digoxin, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Digoxin page

“Digoxin is a heart medicine with a narrow therapeutic index, meaning the gap between a helpful blood level and a harmful one is small, and few drugs give me more pause when supplements enter the picture. The most serious entries here are herbs that themselves contain digoxin-like cardiac glycosides, foxglove and lily-of-the-valley amon…”

About Alpha-ketoglutarate (akg)

What is Alpha-ketoglutarate (akg)?

Alpha-ketoglutarate (akg)
  • Anti-aging and longevity support
  • Athletic performance and recovery
  • Muscle building
  • Bone health
  • General metabolic and energy support

Alpha-ketoglutarate (AKG) is a natural molecule in the body's energy-making (Krebs) cycle that is now sold as a supplement, mainly marketed for longevity, exercise, and muscle support. Most human evidence is limited or early, and many popular claims rest on lab or animal studies, so benefits are not well proven. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before starting it, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a health condition.

Not applicable (a naturally occurring metabolic molecule, made synthetically for supplements) · Capsules, tablets, powders; often as calcium alpha-ketoglutarate (Ca-AKG), arginine alpha-ketoglutarate (AAKG), or ornithine alpha-ketoglutarate (OKG)

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Alpha-ketoglutarate (akg) is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Alpha-ketoglutarate (akg) record says about it on its own.

Alpha-ketoglutarate (akg): dosing

There is no official, established dose of AKG for any health condition. Doses used in studies have varied widely depending on the form (calcium AKG, arginine AKG, or ornithine AKG) and the purpose. The safest approach is to follow the directions on the product label and not exceed the recommended amount.

About Digoxin

What Is Digoxin Used For?

Brand names: Lanoxicaps, Lanoxin, Digitek

Digoxin treats mild to moderate heart failure in adults. It improves heart failure symptoms and exercise capacity, and it reduces heart failure-related hospitalizations and emergency care. It does not change survival.

It also helps control the resting heart rate in adults with chronic atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat). In children with heart failure, the tablet, oral solution and most injection products are used to increase the heart’s pumping strength (myocardial contractility). Some older injection labels list only the adult uses. Digoxin Oral Solution should not be used for multifocal atrial tachycardia.
