Nylidrin falls under Vasodilators — the group American Mistletoe interacts with.

American mistletoe contains phoratoxin, a compound toxic to humans that induces smooth muscle contraction and vasoconstriction, potentially increasing blood pressure and heart rate. Taking dietary supplements containing American mistletoe may counteract the effects of vasodilator drugs, such as hydralazine. It is important to note that American mistletoe is uncommon in dietary supplements. More commonly, European mistletoe is used as it does not contain phoratoxin.

Here's the simple version. Nylidrin (Arlidin) is a vasodilator, which means it works by relaxing and opening up your blood vessels to improve blood flow. American mistletoe pulls in the opposite direction. It contains a toxin called phoratoxin that can tighten blood vessels and may nudge your blood pressure and heart rate upward.

Because the two work against each other, taking mistletoe could blunt or cancel out what Nylidrin is trying to do, so you may not get the full benefit. Honestly, American mistletoe is rarely found in supplements and we don't recommend taking it at all since it's considered toxic. If you're using anything with mistletoe, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first.
