Here's the simple version: you're taking perindopril (Aceon) to bring your blood pressure down. American mistletoe works in the opposite direction. It contains a toxin called phoratoxin that can tighten blood vessels and raise both blood pressure and heart rate. So the mistletoe could partly cancel out the very effect you want from perindopril, and your numbers might creep back up.

Beyond that, mistletoe has been linked to heart-related toxicity in case reports, so pairing it with a blood pressure medicine is a poor combination. The good news is that true American mistletoe is rarely found in supplements (most products are homeopathic or use European mistletoe). Still, please don't take any mistletoe product without checking with your pharmacist or doctor first, and keep the plant away from kids and pets.

What Is Perindopril Used For?

Brand name: Aceon

Perindopril Erbumine tablets are used to treat essential hypertension (high blood pressure). They can be used alone or combined with other blood pressure medicines, particularly thiazide diuretics.

Perindopril Erbumine tablets are also used in adults with stable coronary artery disease to lower the risk of dying from a cardiovascular cause or having a nonfatal heart attack. They can be used alongside other standard coronary artery disease treatments such as antiplatelet, blood pressure, or cholesterol-lowering therapy.
