Antineoplastics
Why this applies to Atezolizumab
Atezolizumab falls under Antineoplastics — the group American Pawpaw interacts with.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's the honest picture with Tecentriq (atezolizumab) and American pawpaw. Atezolizumab is a monoclonal antibody, a lab-made protein that takes the brakes off your immune system so it can attack cancer cells. It isn't broken down by the liver enzymes that supplements usually tangle with, so there's no clear, proven interaction here.
The concern is purely theoretical. Pawpaw's acetogenins, like annonacin, disrupt how cells make energy in lab dishes. Whether that helps, hurts, or simply muddies your cancer treatment in real life is unknown, and the evidence is weak. Because pawpaw seeds and bark can also be toxic, I'd hold off and check with your oncologist or pharmacist before adding it. Don't change your atezolizumab plan on your own.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Atezolizumab page
“Atezolizumab (Tecentriq) is cancer immunotherapy, a drug designed to release the brakes on your own immune system so it can attack tumors. That mechanism explains why nearly every one of the 54 supplements and herbs on this page made the list: 53 are flagged because they appear to stimulate immune activity, based mostly on lab and anim…”

About American Pawpaw
What is American Pawpaw?
- Anticancer interest
- Lice and head lice treatment (topical)
- Traditional digestive remedy
- General wellness/antioxidant
- Insecticide (historical seed use)
American pawpaw is a North American fruit tree whose leaves, twigs, and seeds contain compounds called acetogenins that have shown cancer-cell-killing activity in laboratory studies. However, strong human evidence for any health benefit is lacking, and the seeds, bark, and unripe parts can be toxic, so supplements should be used cautiously and only under professional guidance.
