Lomustine falls under Antineoplastics — the group American Pawpaw interacts with.

American pawpaw (Asimina triloba) contains Annonacin, a natural compound that has been investigated for its potential anticancer effects. Laboratory studies suggest that Annonacin may inhibit or prevent the growth and spread of tumors or malignant cells by disrupting mitochondrial function, leading to cell death (source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6672878/; https://www.nature.com/articles/s41419-018-0772-x). It is currently unknown how American pawpaw may interact, if at all, with prescription antineoplastic drugs. Here's the honest picture with lomustine (Ceenu) and American pawpaw. Pawpaw's main compound, annonacin, has shown its own cancer-cell-killing activity in lab dishes by disrupting how cells make energy. The concern is that lomustine is also a powerful chemotherapy drug, so stacking two things that both stress cells could, in theory, change how well your treatment works or add to side effects like nausea, low blood counts, fatigue, or infection risk.

I want to be clear: this is a theoretical worry based on lab studies, not proven in people, and a real interaction is considered unlikely. Still, with a serious drug like lomustine, I wouldn't add any pawpaw supplement on your own. Please run it by your oncology team or pharmacist first.

What Is Lomustine Used For?

Lomustine capsules are used to treat primary and metastatic brain tumors, typically after surgery and/or radiation therapy. Both Gleostine and Lomustine branded capsules share these approved uses.

Lomustine capsules are also used as part of a combination chemotherapy regimen for Hodgkin's lymphoma (a cancer of the lymph system) in patients whose disease has continued to progress after initial chemotherapy.
