Androsterone and Buspirone

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Buspirone and Androsterone in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Buspirone

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Buspirone is filed under 5 classifications — including serotonergic drugs, serotonergic drugs, cytochrome p450 3a4 (cyp3a4) substrates. Androsterone has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being androgens (minor) — and none of Buspirone’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

What Androsterone Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Buspirone. It is the side-effect record for Androsterone on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add Androsterone, this list is the first place to look. One entry is worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • Liver problems Worth acting on Additional detail

“Orally, androsterone is possibly unsafe. As an anabolic androgenic steroid, there is concern that it might cause serious side effects including heart disease and liver injury.”

Androsterone · Natural Medicines adverse-effect record, reported in cardiovascular disease (cvd).

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Androsterone — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Buspirone’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Buspirone column appears here.

Androsterone in Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Pregnancy And Lactation Possibly Unsafe

When used orally or parenterally. Anabolic androgenic steroids can disrupt the body's hormonal balance and cause various adverse effects including reduced fertility, hair loss, acne, and behavioral changes. Anabolic androgenic steroid use has also been associated with hepatotoxicity and increased risk for heart disease. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and other regulatory agencies warn that dietary supplements containing anabolic steroids are dangerous. Avoid using.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Buspirone page

“I counsel genuine caution when supplements meet buspirone (BuSpar), the anxiety medication, because four of its 155 documented interactions are rated major. The bulk of the list, 121 ingredients, changes how your liver clears buspirone through the CYP3A4 enzyme, pushing its level up toward dizziness and drowsiness or down until the anx…”

About Androsterone

What is Androsterone?

Androsterone
  • Muscle building and athletic performance
  • Boosting testosterone or androgen levels
  • Supporting libido
  • Bodybuilding 'prohormone' stacks

Androsterone is a natural androgenic steroid hormone made in the body, but supplement versions are classified as anabolic-androgenic steroids and are banned from U.S. dietary supplements under the DASCA law. There is no good evidence that taking it is safe or effective, and it carries the same hormone-related risks as other anabolic steroids. Avoid products that contain it, and talk to a pharmacist or doctor about safer, legal options.

Not applicable (a steroid hormone, not a plant) · Historically sold as oral capsules, tablets, and sublingual products in 'prohormone' supplements (now banned in the U.S.)

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Androsterone is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Androsterone record says about it on its own.

Androsterone: dosing

There is no established or recommended safe dose of androsterone as a supplement, and it is illegal to sell in U.S. dietary supplements. We do not provide dosing for it.If you see a product that lists androsterone or one of its alternate names on the label, treat it as a banned anabolic steroid rather than a normal supplement.

About Buspirone

What Is Buspirone Used For?

Brand name: BuSpar

Buspirone tablets and capsules are used to manage anxiety disorders or to relieve anxiety symptoms in the short term. Its effectiveness has been shown in clinical trials focused on Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) — a condition marked by persistent, hard-to-control worry along with physical symptoms like muscle tension, restlessness, difficulty concentrating, and sleep problems.

Buspirone has also been shown to relieve anxiety in people who have mild depressive symptoms alongside their anxiety. Everyday stress and tension, on their own, generally do not require treatment with a medicine like buspirone.
