Angelica Archangelica and Modafinil

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Modafinil and Angelica Archangelica in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Angelica Archangelica safety at a glance

Angelica Archangel... overall Use caution Often used in food amounts, but medicinal doses are not well studied and can cause skin sensitivity to sunlight.
Pregnancy Avoid Traditionally thought to affect the uterus and not well studied; best avoided in medicinal amounts.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Modafinil

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Modafinil is filed under 9 classifications — including dopamine agonists, cytochrome p450 2c19 (cyp2c19) inhibitors, cytochrome p450 2c9 (cyp2c9) inhibitors. Angelica Archangelica has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being photosensitizing drugs (moderate) — and none of Modafinil’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Angelica Archangelica — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Modafinil’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Modafinil column appears here.

About Angelica Archangelica

What is Angelica Archangelica?

Angelica Archangelica
  • Digestive upset and gas
  • Loss of appetite
  • Anxiety and restlessness
  • Mild respiratory complaints
  • Flavoring in foods and drinks

Angelica archangelica is a tall aromatic herb used traditionally for digestive complaints, poor appetite, and to flavor foods and liqueurs. Solid human evidence for its health benefits is limited, and its skin-sensitizing furanocoumarins mean caution is warranted. Pregnant and breastfeeding people should avoid it, and anyone considering it should check with a pharmacist or doctor first.

Angelica archangelica · Apiaceae (Umbelliferae) · Root, seeds (fruit), leaves, and essential oil · Tea, dried root, tincture, capsules, essential oil, and as a flavoring in liqueurs

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Angelica Archangelica is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Angelica Archangelica record says about it on its own.

Angelica Archangelica: dosing

There is no well-established standardized dose for Angelica archangelica. Traditional preparations include teas made from the dried root or seeds, tinctures, and capsules, but the amount of active compounds can vary widely between products.Because reliable dosing guidelines are lacking, the safest approach is to follow the directions on the product label and not exceed them. Avoid combining it with strong sun exposure or tanning.

About Modafinil

What Is Modafinil Used For?

Brand names: Provigil, Sparlon, Alertec

Modafinil helps adults stay awake when they have excessive sleepiness linked to narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), or shift work disorder (SWD). Both Provigil and generic modafinil tablets are labeled for these three uses.

In OSA, it treats the sleepiness only. It does not treat the airway blockage itself. If CPAP (a breathing machine) is your treatment of choice, a full effort to use it should come first and continue during treatment.
