Benazepril, Hydrochlorothiazide falls under NEPHROTOXIC DRUGS — the group Aristolochia interacts with.

Aristolochia is nephrotoxic. There are numerous cases of nephropathy and renal failure associated with aristolochia use. Theoretically, combining aristolochia with potentially nephrotoxic drugs might have additive adverse effects on kidney function. However, this interaction has not yet been reported in humans. Close monitoring of renal function in patients taking aristolochia with nephrotoxic drugs may be warranted.
Some potentially nephrotoxic drugs include cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune); aminoglycosides including amikacin (Amikin), gentamicin (Garamycin, Gentak, others), and tobramycin (Nebcin, others); nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) including ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, Nuprin, others), indomethacin (Indocin), naproxen (Aleve, Anaprox, Naprelan, Naprosyn), piroxicam (Feldene); and numerous others.

Here's the simple version. Aristolochia is well known to harm the kidneys, and there are real cases of people developing kidney damage and even kidney failure after using it. Lotensin HCT is a combination of benazepril (an ACE inhibitor) and hydrochlorothiazide (a water pill). Both pieces of this medicine already lean on your kidneys and can shift your fluid and electrolyte balance, so adding a kidney toxin on top is a worrying combination.

To be fair, this specific pairing hasn't been formally reported in people, so the concern is based on how these things work rather than hard human data. Still, watch for less urination, swelling, fatigue, or feeling dizzy. Honestly, the safest move is to avoid Aristolochia entirely and check with your pharmacist or doctor first.
