Gilteritinib Fumarate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Astaxanthin interacts with.

Theoretically, astaxanthin may decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that astaxanthin induces CYP3A4 enzyme activity in human hepatocytes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the concern with pairing astaxanthin and Xospata (gilteritinib). Your body clears gilteritinib using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab studies (using human liver cells in a dish), astaxanthin appeared to speed up, or 'induce,' that enzyme. If that happened in real life, it could clear gilteritinib out of your system faster and lower its blood levels, which might make this leukemia treatment work less well.

I want to be straight with you, though: this is purely theoretical and has never actually been seen in people. Still, gilteritinib is a serious cancer medicine where keeping the right level matters a lot. Please don't start or stop anything on your own. Run any supplement past your oncology team or pharmacist first.

What Is Gilteritinib Used For?

Brand name: Xospata

Xospata (gilteritinib) is used to treat adults with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) — a fast-moving blood and bone marrow cancer — when the disease has come back after prior treatment (relapsed) or stopped responding to treatment (refractory). It is only used when a laboratory test approved by the FDA has confirmed that the leukemia cells carry a FLT3 mutation, a genetic change that helps the cancer grow.

Because response can take time, treatment for at least 6 months is generally recommended as long as the disease is not progressing and side effects are manageable.
