Astaxanthin + Ciclesonide
Ciclesonide brand names: Omnaris, Alvesco, Zetonna.
Astaxanthin has a moderate interaction with Ciclesonide. Theoretically, astaxanthin may decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Ciclesonide
Ciclesonide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Astaxanthin interacts with.
In vitro research shows that astaxanthin induces CYP3A4 enzyme activity in human hepatocytes. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the situation with these two. Ciclesonide is actually a prodrug. After you breathe it in, your body converts it into its active form, and the liver enzyme CYP3A4 helps clear it afterward. In lab dish studies, astaxanthin seems to speed up that enzyme. In theory, that could break ciclesonide down a little faster and leave less of it working in your airways.
If that happened, the worry would be your asthma control slipping, meaning more wheezing, coughing, or chest tightness. But please don't lose sleep over this. This is only test-tube data and has never been seen in real people. The interaction is mostly theoretical. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding astaxanthin, just so they can keep an eye on your breathing.

- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

Questions About Astaxanthin or Ciclesonide
These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. Each one covers Astaxanthin or Ciclesonide, not necessarily both, but if one is close to what you were about to ask it will usually go further than a database entry can:

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Ciclesonide page
“Ciclesonide (Alvesco, Omnaris, Zetonna) is a corticosteroid for asthma and nasal allergies, and even though it is inhaled rather than swallowed, its supplement list warrants genuine care. The body clears it through the CYP3A4 enzyme, and 121 of the 166 ingredients on file nudge that pathway one way or the other.”

About Astaxanthin
What is Astaxanthin?
- Antioxidant support
- Skin health and aging
- Eye health
- Exercise recovery
- Heart and inflammation support
Astaxanthin is a reddish carotenoid pigment with strong antioxidant activity in the lab, and it is widely promoted for skin, eye, heart, and exercise benefits. Early human studies are promising for a few uses, but the overall evidence is still limited and not strong enough to make firm claims. It appears generally well tolerated at typical supplement doses, but talk with your pharmacist or doctor before starting it.
