Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Testosterone Undecanoate
Testosterone Undecanoate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Astaxanthin interacts with.
In vitro research shows that astaxanthin induces CYP3A4 enzyme activity in human hepatocytes. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for oral testosterone undecanoate (like Jatenzo or Kyzatrex). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help process this medication. In test tube studies, astaxanthin seemed to speed up that enzyme, which could in theory clear the testosterone a little faster and slightly soften its effect. That might show up as your low-testosterone symptoms creeping back, things like low energy, low libido, or mood changes.
I want to be honest about how shaky this is, though. This was only seen in lab cells, never in real people, so it may not happen at all at normal supplement doses. Please don't stop either one on your own. Since your doctor already checks your testosterone levels with bloodwork, just mention the astaxanthin so they can keep an eye on things.

“The supplement list for testosterone undecanoate (Jatenzo, Aveed, Kyzatrex, Andriol) deserves real attention before you combine it with much of anything, and the seven major-rated entries are where I would start. About Astaxanthin
What is Astaxanthin?
- Antioxidant support
- Skin health and aging
- Eye health
- Exercise recovery
- Heart and inflammation support
Astaxanthin is a reddish carotenoid pigment with strong antioxidant activity in the lab, and it is widely promoted for skin, eye, heart, and exercise benefits. Early human studies are promising for a few uses, but the overall evidence is still limited and not strong enough to make firm claims. It appears generally well tolerated at typical supplement doses, but talk with your pharmacist or doctor before starting it.
About Testosterone Injection
What Is Testosterone Injection Used For?
Brand names: Andriol, Aveed, Jatenzo, Kyzatrex
Testosterone injections replace testosterone when the body makes too little or none. The label describes this in men with primary hypogonadism (a problem in the testicles) and hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (a problem with the pituitary or hypothalamus signals).
Testosterone Enanthate Injection is also used to stimulate puberty in carefully selected boys with clearly delayed puberty. It may be used secondarily in some postmenopausal women with advanced, inoperable breast cancer that has spread to the bone, under an oncologist’s direction. Aveed is for hypogonadism in men and is not for use in women.
