Ribociclib Succinate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Astaxanthin interacts with.

Theoretically, astaxanthin may decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that astaxanthin induces CYP3A4 enzyme activity in human hepatocytes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for Kisqali (ribociclib). Your body relies on an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down ribociclib. In lab dish studies, astaxanthin seemed to speed that enzyme up a bit. If that were to happen in real life, your body could clear ribociclib a little faster, which in theory might lower its blood levels and make this important cancer treatment work less well. Ribociclib is not a prodrug, so faster clearance means weaker effect, not stronger.

The good news: this is only a theoretical, test-tube finding that has never been shown in actual people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, because ribociclib is a serious cancer medicine, please run any astaxanthin supplement by your oncologist or pharmacist first.

What Is Ribociclib Used For?

Brand name: Kisqali

Kisqali (ribociclib) tablets are used in adults with hormone receptor (HR)-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer. For early breast cancer (stage II or III, at high risk of coming back), Kisqali is given alongside an aromatase inhibitor as adjuvant treatment — meaning treatment after initial surgery to reduce the risk of the cancer returning.

For advanced or metastatic breast cancer (cancer that has spread), Kisqali is used in combination with either an aromatase inhibitor or fulvestrant — as the first hormonal treatment tried, or after the cancer has grown despite prior hormone therapy.
