Ripretinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Astaxanthin interacts with.

Theoretically, astaxanthin may decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that astaxanthin induces CYP3A4 enzyme activity in human hepatocytes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for ripretinib (Qinlock): your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear this cancer medicine. Lab studies (done in cells, not in people) suggest astaxanthin might rev up that enzyme. If it does, your body could break ripretinib down faster, leaving less of the drug to fight your GIST tumor. With a cancer therapy, you really don't want it working below full strength.

That said, this is only a theoretical concern based on test-tube research, and it has never been shown to happen in actual patients. Still, ripretinib is serious medicine, so please run any astaxanthin supplement past your oncologist or pharmacist before adding it.
