    “Predominant neurologic symptoms of autumn crocus poisoning include hemiparesis, encephalopathy, brain edema, coma, and death. Peripheral neuropathy has occurred as a long-term consequence of autumn crocus poisoning.

    Autumn Crocus

    “Gastrointestinal symptoms are often the first signs of autumn crocus poisoning and include burning of the mouth, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and ileus. These symptoms typically occur within 2-12 hours after oral ingestion, with early onset indicating a poorer prognosis. Pancreatitis has also been reported with severe autumn crocus poisoning.”

Autumn Crocus is a highly poisonous plant that contains colchicine, a compound that has real medical value but is dangerous in its raw form. You should never eat the plant or take homemade preparations from it. If you need colchicine for gout or familial Mediterranean fever, use the standardized, FDA-approved prescription product under a doctor's supervision.

Colchicum autumnale · Colchicaceae · Corm (bulb-like underground stem), seeds, and flowers · Rarely used as a raw plant or crude extract; the purified active compound (colchicine) is available only as an FDA-approved prescription medicine

About Dantrolene

What Is Dantrolene Used For?

Brand names: Dantrium, Dantrium Intravenous

Dantrolene sodium capsules (Dantrium, Dantrolene Sodium) are used by mouth to control spasticity — painful or disabling muscle stiffness and spasms — caused by upper motor neuron disorders such as spinal cord injury, stroke, cerebral palsy, or multiple sclerosis. They are not used for muscle spasm from arthritis or other rheumatic conditions. Oral capsules are also used before and after surgery to prevent or reduce the risk of malignant hyperthermia in patients known to be susceptible.

For an active malignant hyperthermia crisis — a sudden, dangerous overheating of the muscles triggered by certain anesthetics — the intravenous (IV) forms are given in the hospital. Dantrium Intravenous, Revonto, Ryanodex, and Dantrolene injection are all indicated to treat a malignant hyperthermia crisis and may also be given before surgery to help prevent one in high-risk patients.
