Here's the short version: if you ever receive dantrolene through a vein (the IV form, often given for a dangerous overheating reaction called malignant hyperthermia), giving intravenous procaine at the same time is considered off-limits. This isn't about dantrolene being broken down differently. It's that both drugs can affect the heart and muscle electrical signals, and stacking them in the bloodstream raises the risk of low blood pressure, an irregular heartbeat, or extra muscle weakness.

This warning is based on how the two drugs work rather than lots of real-world cases, so think of it as a sensible precaution. The good news is this is handled by your medical team in a hospital, not something you'd mix on your own. If you're prescribed either one, just mention the other to your doctor or pharmacist so they can keep you safe.

Procaine is a synthetic local anesthetic (best known by the brand name Novocaine) used by doctors and dentists to numb tissue. It is not a true dietary supplement or herb, and the 'anti-aging' products built around it (such as GH3 or 'Gerovital') have weak evidence and real safety concerns. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using any product containing procaine.

About Dantrolene

What Is Dantrolene Used For?

Brand names: Dantrium, Dantrium Intravenous

Dantrolene sodium capsules (Dantrium, Dantrolene Sodium) are used by mouth to control spasticity — painful or disabling muscle stiffness and spasms — caused by upper motor neuron disorders such as spinal cord injury, stroke, cerebral palsy, or multiple sclerosis. They are not used for muscle spasm from arthritis or other rheumatic conditions. Oral capsules are also used before and after surgery to prevent or reduce the risk of malignant hyperthermia in patients known to be susceptible.

For an active malignant hyperthermia crisis — a sudden, dangerous overheating of the muscles triggered by certain anesthetics — the intravenous (IV) forms are given in the hospital. Dantrium Intravenous, Revonto, Ryanodex, and Dantrolene injection are all indicated to treat a malignant hyperthermia crisis and may also be given before surgery to help prevent one in high-risk patients.
